13-03 WDSF Grand Slam Standard – Cambrils / Spain

The 2013 WDSF Grand Slam Series started on March 30th in Cambrils / Spain. It also was the start of the new grand slam judging system 2.0. WDSF Sportdirector Marco Sietas had explained the new judging rules some weeks before on WDSF website.

Several tests had been made to assure the new system. The juging system 2.0. needs 12 adjudicators, who are seperated to four groups of three judges. Each group has to evaluate another criteria with an absolute appraisal between „very poor“ (0,5) and „outstanding“ (10,0) points.

The last introduction and training of the adjudicators was held only an hour before the start of the competition. The new judging system is used from the quarter final on. There was a lot of tension to see on the faces of the officials and adjudicators. But they all managed the challenge.

75 couples had come to compete at the first grand slam competition of the year. As Benedetto Ferruggia – Claudia Köhler from Germany had turned to WDSF Professional Devision one month before, there is a new situation at the top of the ballroom section.

Emanuel Valeri – Tania Kehlet from Denmark took the chance to win the competition with 194,63 points ahead of Simone Segatori – Annette Sudol from Germany with 188,13 points.
